A casual gamer talking about games.

Hey, theres a new Guild Wars 2 video up on their website as well as a new section of their website. The info is nothing new, its just describing the different races, but the real kicker is that we not only get to see a little bit of each race's enviornments in greater detail (especially the capital cities which actually seem like cities), but that theres actual snippets of combat too!

Now I must ask you, which race will you play as?

Cant wait, cant wait, cant wait.

It looks ok, but I don't know. I bought the first one when it came out and only played it for like 3 or 4 days and got burnt out on it. I just couldn't get into it. I don't want that to happen with this one.

To each is own, I never liked WoW or many other MMO's. But Ive played GW since beta. So Im bias.

This one is supposed to be different in a few ways, the most noticable example being (besides the different races you can play as) that this game is actually going to be a persistant world rather than the instanced one in GW (minus dungeons, storyline missions etc). Theres a bunch of other changes that they are working on (such as introducing fewer and more simpler skills, introducing player crafting, ability to jump and swim, etc.) that I think will make this a very different experiance from the original GW.

I'm not saying this will be the greatest MMO of all time or anything, but I feel that GW2 is going to be a vast improvement on its predecessor and one that people should definetly check out especially since the only hurt to your wallet is the purchase of the actual game itself (still no sub fees!).

Thanks for the link! This is what I am really waiting for! I started playing GW on retail release day when the servers went live.

I have 7 characters full up, all heroes fitted out, each character and mule maxed on plat in inventory, and my storage is crammed to the guild with goodies and its plat storage is also maxed out. Sort of ran out of things to do!

GW 2 looks like it is going to be truly epic.

By the way and just in passing, Dragon Age Origins strikes me as being somewhat like GW Nightfall only with all of the RPG dialogues glommed on, and heroes who are equally troublesome in their own way.

The mage Fade starting area in DAO reminded me of scenes from GW Realm of Torment. And in GW Nightfall, you have a player, 3 heroes, and 4 henchmen. The DAO party is player and three heroes; you don't get the four hench, darn it.

Charr with guns... That's kinda scary.

I'm still a little upset that all the world-saving we did in GW1 gets undone, but this new video helped. The new architectural styles help reinforce the fact that a really long time has passed, giving some much needed distance from the events of the previous game.

Would have been nice if dwarves were still around, too. I really would have enjoyed playing a booze-crazed Armokian fortress dwarf.

Holy crap, and people say WoW players are crazy . You're welcome for the link, although lets be honest, you probably would have found it on your own eventually. I just sped up the process. GW 2 and Elemental are probably the two biggest games I'm waiting for (SC2, SW:TOR, and Sins:Dip are the other three with vague blips on my radar). Havn't played DAO, too many unfinished RPGs on my shelf as it is, but it looks cool.

Yes, Charr with guns is rather scarey isnt it. And yes, it kinda stinks to lose your progress, but the GW team is fairly commited to keeping the grind to a minimum so hopefully you'll spend more time exploring this jaw-dropping world lookig for fun and optional stuff to do as opposed to just grinding mobs/quests to raise your level. I am thinking of their event system as a nice example.

Also, the Norn are essentially Vikings, so you can still be a booze-crazed guy, just one that can shapeshift into a bear during the inevitable bar brawls. Lets see a dwarf match that!

I'm probably looking at being a Human or Norn myself. The Sylvari and the Asura dont leave a lasting impression on me (especially the Sylvari), and the Charr seem like they will be overplayed because they look so darn cool (and who wants to play the overpopulated race anyway...).

I think you misunderstand. I'm not referring to character progress, but the storyline. You get kicked out of your homeland by charr, build a refugee camp in the jungle, save the world on at least four different occasions from three different continents, replace a god, and then when it's all finally over and you can go back to helping your people rebuild OH HEY DRAGONS! *ker-pocalypse!*

Meh. The Norn are cool and all, but Armokian dwarves have been known to throw dragons. By their toes.

Also, I think you may be wrong about the Charr being the "popular" race. They're the ones who destroyed Ascalon in the first place, and all the crazy world-saving stuff since has just been a distraction from kicking their fuzzy butts back beyond the Wall. I think a lot of people are going to want to play Human so they can finally have a chance to do that.

I'm more disappointed about Palawa Joko (It seems really odd that some whispers guys oand/or sunspears wouldn't sneak back to the fortress and nab him, given what a threat he had been before in the backstory.), and that my faorite areas in the original game (Vabbi, Kurzick lands, Jade Sea) appear to be getting changed in the newer version (assuming expansions go to these areas, which seems likely.)

As for whether I play it, I'll be watching the developement of the game.  The thing I liked most about original guildwars was the fact that max level and gear were reached really quickly, and getting gear was really simple, and than it was pretty much free from that point on, so some descriptions of guild wars 2 leveling and gear are kind of worrying.
